Hello! Whether you are new to the world of pottery or you are a veteran potter who is interested in comparing our products to our competitors, we at Potterhyme would like to say “Welcome, we’re glad you’re here!” We are so glad that you have found our site and we are certain that you will find just the right tools and accessories to make the pottery pieces you have been looking forward to making. We believe that a potter’s apron is one of their most important tools, so we have taken great care to make aprons of which we can be proud to offer to everyone who shares our love of pottery as well as to other artists who need an apron when they are engaging in their craft (i.e. painters, clay, tattoo, ect).
When you are selecting an apron from our site, you will notice that we give you a choice in the material that your apron is made from. You can choose an apron made from high-quality lined polyester fabric or an apron made from canvas. Regardless of the apron selected, you can rest assured that you will receive an apron which is both waterproof and durable, qualities which set Potterhyme’s aprons apart from other pottery aprons out there. We know that no potter (or anybody, really) enjoys sitting in clothes which are getting wetter by the minute, so we took care to ensure that our aprons address that need so your clothes (and skin) under the apron will stay dry, meaning you can enjoy your time at the wheel for a more extended period of time than before. It’s a win-win situation! Now, you may be wondering “Okay, so what’s the difference between the polyester and the canvas apron? Why not just offer one or the other?” Well, for one thing, polyester is a synthetic fiber whereas canvas is made from cotton, a natural fiber. This means that the polyester apron will be less breathable than the canvas apron when you are wearing it, but the polyester apron will be more resistant to mold and mildew over the long run than the canvas apron will be. With the difference in materials used to make the aprons, there also comes a slight difference in the care instructions. You can wash the polyester apron in the washing machine on a gentle cycle, but you should only wash the canvas apron by hand. Both aprons should be washed in cold water and should be line-dried in order to ensure the least amount of shrinkage and lasting durability.
Another important characteristic of our aprons is that they have full-body coverage. Whether you’re standing, sitting or walking, your body will be covered from your chest to below your knees. We understand how vital full-body coverage is for potters, and we also know that it has been a frustration for potters in the past that their aprons did not offer coverage at every point in their process, so we have ensured that our aprons do offer full-body coverage. Just to make sure, we’ve even gone the extra step of adding leg straps to our aprons. The leg straps offer extra security to you as the potter by ensuring that the apron is not only held in place at the neck and waist, as would be expected from the classic apron design, but also onto the legs. Because the leg straps are placed on either side of each leg (two straps for each leg), they are able to accommodate a wide range of calf sizes and can be adjusted to fit each potter who uses an apron accordingly.
The leg straps are also made possible, even essential, by another attribute of our aprons: the split leg feature. Our apron boasts the presence of a split in the fabric in the leg area. This serves the purpose of allowing you as the potter to have full coverage without sacrificing full movement. At Potterhyme, our goal with our aprons is to provide a tool that is beneficial to you as a potter whether you are standing or sitting at your wheel or walking around your workspace and the split-leg feature is just one of the ways that we can demonstrate that we have your needs in mind when it comes to the products that we offer here at Potterhyme.
Another way that we have sought to ensure that we meet your apron needs is that our aprons feature an adjustable neck strap. Like the leg straps mentioned above, this means that our aprons can be worn by most potters (specifically anyone between 5’3”-6’3”) with one quick adjustment of the neck strap to ensure that each apron can be worn comfortably by their respective owners.
The last feature of our aprons that makes them the exceptional product that they are is the presence of pockets. Yes, just like the girls who like to wear dresses with pockets, we think that pottery aprons should be decked out in pockets as well, and not just one or two pockets either. No, our aprons have five pockets in total: three small pockets across the apron bib’s front and a larger hip pocket on each of the apron’s legs. Are all these pockets really necessary though? We think so, but here’s our reasoning for the number, sizing and placement of the pockets: The bib pockets are the perfect size and place for any slender pottery tools that you want to have ready access to at all times for the duration of your work session. With the bib pockets, you do not have to worry about putting down and potentially losing track of the smaller tools, but you also won’t have to worry about keeping hold of those same tools all the time. The two bigger pockets come in handy for stowing and protecting personal items such as a smartphone while you are working, but they also can be used to hold the bulkier tools of your craft, such as sponges and the bigger rollers.
